چکیده

A 47-year-old woman with dilated cardiomyopathy underwent a single-chamber implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implantation for sustained ventricular tachycardia 10 years previously. Because bradycardia became clinically evident with beta-blocker therapy for heart failure, we attempted an upgrade from a single-chamber to dual-chamber ICD for physiological pacing. Venography revealed complete obstruction of the superior vena cava (SVC) with a collateral route through a huge azygous vein (Pictures A, B, C). SVC syndrome caused by pacemaker leads is only occasionally seen and its incidence has been estimated to be less than 1 in 1,000 pacemaker patients. The azygous vein is fre-

Implantable cardioverter-defibrillator in a patient with dextrocardia situs inversus

Background: Dextrocardia is a congenital anomaly, which may have coexistent coronary artery disease (CAD), arrhythmias and conventional indications for device therapy. However, the implantation of transvenous leads can be technically challenging and the approach needs to be tailored to the patient's individual anatomy. Case presentation: A 54-year-old male with dextrocardia situs inversus and i...

Incidence of venous obstruction following insertion of an implantable cardioverter defibrillator. A study of systematic contrast venography on patients presenting for their first elective ICD generator replacement.

AIMS The number of implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implantations, as well as follow-up procedures such as generator exchanges, lead revisions and lead system upgrades, is ever-increasing. Lead revisions and implantation of additional leads require venous access at the site of the previous ICD implantation. The aim of our study was therefore to evaluate the incidence of venous obstr...

Percutaneous Management of Non Malignant Superior Vena Cava Syndrome Using IN.PACT Paclitaxel Coated Balloon

Superior Vena Cava (SVC) syndrome is an uncommon but known complication of Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) and pacemaker lead placement. In general 0.2 to 3% of all implants are associated with symptomatic SVC stenosis. Stent placement is a viable option for benign SVC syndrome in the absence of indwelling pacing leads. The risk of perforation and lead fracture increases when large...
